Blend compatibilization

Ionomers

Abstract

The study of polymer blends and alloys represents one of the most important fields in polymer science today. In fact, more than half of the commercial plastics contain more than one component. Polymer materials with desired physico-chemical properties can sometimes be prepared simply by blending two or more polymers together instead of preparing new polymers through random, block, or graft copolymerization. Comprehensive accounts of various polymer alloys and blends can be found in many previous publications (Paul and Newman, 1978; Olabisi, et al., 1979; Utracki and Weiss, 1989; Utracki, 1989; Coleman et al., 1991).
