Part of the book series: Studies in Operational Regional Science ((SORS,volume 9))

Abstract

According to our accumulated experience and the implications of route choice processes as presented above, we have decided to conclude the book with the future prospects of what is considered the most annoying issue in transportation, namely congestion. We believe that practical and theoretical insights into route choice behavior could be a key element in future solutions to relieve this problem. Therefore, we will first present the characteristics and the future prospects of congestion, and second we will sketch some potential solutions. The potential use of route choice research and information in formulating these solutions will then be discussed.
