Abstract

My interest in neutron stars was stimulated by Hans Heintzmann in 1971. Ever since then, I have actively pursued the progress made both observationally and theoretically, in understanding these compact astrophysical objects whose proper description cannot avoid Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity. In the course of those studies, I could not always be convinced of the reality of assumptions made by some of my colleagues. The ‘alternatives’ grew in number. They often brought me into conflict with referees. And they survived through the four discussion sessions at Erice.
