Abstract

This paper describes the hereditary variation and heritability of grain protein content in triticale. Six triticale varieties having different protein contents were used as female parents and were hybridized with five stable triticale strains. Thirty combinations were made by an incomplete diallel cross. The protein content of the grain of offspring was estimated by the index of hereditary variation constitution and heritability. The experiment indicated that grain protein content was under the control of additive genetic effects. This was due to the polygene complement, and the interaction of genotype with environment. Superior parental materials with high protein contents can be selected by using the superiority of the character established in this study.
