Abstract
Releases of radioactive substances to the environment have in principle always occurred. Erosion of land, run-off with rivers and volcanic eruption have thus always contaminated the geo-hydro-sphere with natural occurring radionuclides. In the present context we shall, however, deal with man-made (anthropogenic) radionuclides only.
