Abstract
Does the UK differ in its patterns of educational intermarriage? Popularly Britain is perceived to be, on the one hand, more flexible in both economy and society than mainland countries, but also hidebound by class and having an economy in longterm relative decline. There may be only fragments of truth in these popular conceptions, but it is interesting to consider why, and whether, educational intermarriage has different characteristics in the UK.
