Zusammenfassung
Erdgas als Kraftstoff für Verbrennungsmotoren ist eine gute Alternative zur Reduzierung der CO2-Emissionen und zur Luftreinhaltung. Erdgas besteht hauptsächlich aus Methan, wird unter Druck im Fahrzeugtank gespeichert und wird deshalb auch als CNG (Compressed Natural Gas, komprimiertes Erdgas) bezeichnet. Durch den Vorteil niedrigerer CO2-Emissionen sowie nahezu keiner Partikelemissionen und durch die Möglichkeit, Benzinmotoren mit relativ geringem Aufwand an den Kraftstoff Erdgas anzupassen, hat der Erdgasbetrieb im Ottomotor gute Voraussetzungen, auch kurzfristig eine stärkere Verbreitung zu erfahren.
