DIETER BUCK-GRAMCKO wurde am 28. Oktober 1927 in Hamburg geboren und wuchs in einem Arzthaushalt auf. Sein Vater PAUL BUCK war Facharzt für Orthopädie und hatte das vom mütterlichen Großvater GUSTAV C. GRAMCKO kaufmännisch geleitete „Medico-mechanische Zander-Institut“ (heute würde man Rehabilitationsinstitut sagen) in Hamburg übernommen — zusammen mit dem Namen GRAMCKO. Nachdem es 1943 ausgebombt war, wurde es als orthopädische Praxis wieder aufgebaut, die später der Bruder Horst weiterführte. Die beiden Brüder wuchsen unbeschwert in einem großzügigen Haus im Stadtteil Wandsbek-Marienthal auf.
