Zusammenfassung
Ist G ein Multigraph, so nennt man eine Abbildung h: K(G) → p {1, ..., q} Kantenfärbung oder q-Kantenfärbung, wenn h(k 1) ≠ h(k 2) für alle inzidenten Kanten k 1, k 2 aus K(G) gilt. Die Werte 1, ..., q heißen Farben, und der Graph G heißt q-kantenfärbbar. Besitzt der Graph G eine q-Kantenfärbung aber keine (q−1)-Kantenfärbung, so nennt man q den chromatischen Index von G, in Zeichen q = x′ (G) = x′. Ist h eine Kantenfärbung von G und K i die Menge aller Kanten von G mit der Farbe i, so nennen wir K i Farbenklasse.
