Zusammenfassung
Die symmetrischen Tensoren zweiter Stufe sind besonders wichtig, weil sich hier über die Hauptwerte (charakteristischen Zahlen) und Eigenvektoren einige weitere Aussagen machen lassen, die eine abschließende Behandlung der symmetrischen Tensoren zweiter Stufe ermöglichen. Sie werden deshalb in den physikalischen Anwendungen bevorzugt; so sind z. B. Trägheits-, Spannungs- und Verzerrungstensor symmetrische Tensoren.
