Abstract
Chemical, biological and physical types of measurement and testing procedures need to be reliable, accurate, precise and comparable in order to allow industry and trade to function successfully. In addition, Community legislation ranging from the common agricultural policy, the Single Market up to worker protection cannot be successfully implemented without these. The EC, SMT-Programme is therefore fully in line with the principles of subsidiarity and cohesion, and supports European industrial competitiveness as well as employment.
