Zusammenfassung
Trichotillomanie (zwanghaftes Haareausreißen) ist eine bisher wenig bekannte Störung, an der überwiegend Frauen leiden. Die Symptomatik ist gekennzeichnet durch unkontrollierbare Impulse, sich einzelne Haare (meist auf dem Kopf, oft auch Wimpern, Augenbrauen und Schamhaar) auszureißen. Die Konsequenzen für die Betroffenen sind oft schwerwiegend: Um die häufig entstehenden kahlen Stellen zu verbergen, werden diverse Versuche zum Verheimlichen des Phänomens unternommen, die nicht selten in sozialen Rückzug und einer Reduktion der Lebensqualität münden. Da der Bekanntheitsgrad dieser Störung zum Teil auch unter Therapeuten noch gering ist, ist es den Betroffenen oft nicht möglich, ihre Isolation zu durchbrechen und therapeutische Hilfe aufzusuchen.
