Zusammenfassung
Was für Unternehmungen im Hochgebirge gilt, ist in ähnlicher Weise auch für unwirtliche Gegenden der Erde gültig, die durch Abgeschiedenheit, Entfernung von der Zivilisation, extremes Klima, besondere Umgebung (Wüsten, Regenwald, Eis und Schnee, Höhlen) oder objektive Gefahren, aber auch fehlende Hygiene, spezielle Krankheitsspektren und ungewohnte Ernährungsbedingungen gekennzeichnet sind. Üblicherweise kommen die angeführten Einzelfaktoren in variabler Kombination vor. Die schädigenden Einflüsse können unbeschadet ihrer Herkunft (exogen, endogen) grundsätzlich alle Teile des Auges Lider, Bindehaut, Hornhaut, Lederhaut, Aderhaut, Linse, Glaskörper, Netzhaut Sehnerv) in variabler Intensität betreffen, doch werden Anomalien, die das Sehvermögen unmittelbar verändern wohl als eindrucksvoller empfunden und daher eher wahrgenommen. Dabei sind auch die für die Informationsweiterleitung und -verarbeitung wesentlichen Gehirnstrukturen mit zu betrachten.
