Zusammenfassung
Wirbelsäulenschmerzen (Nacken-, Rückenund Kreuzschmerzen) stellen ein weit verbreitetes Problem im Gesundheitswesen der Industrieländer dar. In vielen Ländern sind Wirbelsäulenschmerzen die häufigste Ursache für eine Langzeitbeeinträchtigung im mittleren Lebensalter. Sie sind vor allem Hauptursache von hohen medizinischen Kosten, Fehlzeiten am Arbeitsplatz und Arbeitsunfähigkeit. Während akute und subakute Wirbelsäulenschmerzen sich mit und ohne Behandlung in den meisten Fällen vollständig zurückbilden, ist der chronische Wirbelsäulenschmerz in vielen Fällen behandlungsresistent. Bei vielen Patienten kann der Kreuzschmerz nicht durch eine Organpathologie erklärt werden.
