Zusammenfassung
Nach jedem Expansionstakt bzw. jeder Arbeitsphase muß der Inhalt des Zylinders (Ladung) erneuert bzw. gewechselt werden. Ladungswechsel bedeutet dabei, das Abgas muß entfernt und das Frischgas eingebracht werden. Die Effektivität des Ladungswechsels wird durch den Liefergrad λ l beschrieben. Der Ladungswechsel wirkt sich aus auf:

das maximale Drehmoment M max ,

die Abgasqualität (besonders NO x und HC),

den spez. Brennstoffverbrauch b e und

das Laufverhalten (Ottomotor)
