Aus den letzten Kapiteln wissen wir bereits, daß REXX die dritte Prozedurensprache im CMS ist. Die Vorgänger sind EXEC und EXEC2; beides sind Sprachen, die keine Elemente zur Strukturierung bieten. Sogenannte “Spaghettiprogramme” waren die Folge, ähnlich den früheren BASIC-Dialekten.
