Rousseaus Émile ist ein Experiment: Was geschieht, wenn Natur wirkt und nicht gestört wird? Der Ausgang dieses Versuchs zeichnet sich bald ab, die phantastische Inszenierung belegt die doppelte Behauptung des Eröffnungssatzes: Alles ist natürlicherweise gut und alles entartet unter gesellschaftlichen Verhältnissen (vgl. Rousseau 1991, I, S. 9).
