Zusammenfassung
Die Inbetriebnahme von Henry Fords „moving asssembly line“ im Jahr 1913 wird heute häufig als der Beginn der industriellen Massenproduktion bezeichnet. Der Erfolg dieser Produktionsweise war in der Tat beeindruckend: Im Laufe der kommenden 14 Jahre fiel die Fertigungsfrequenz von Fords „Model T“ von ursprünglich 12,5 Stunden auf etwa 20 Sekunden. Gleichzeitig reduzierte sich der Preis bei ständig steigenden Verkaufszahlen auf weniger als 50 Prozent. Um das Jahr 1920 waren etwa die Hälfte aller in Amerika zugelassenen Autos vom Typ „Model T“1.
