Zusammenfassung

Die respiratorische Insuffizienz ist definiert als schwerwiegende Störung des pulmonalen Gasaustauschs. Ist v. a. der Austausch von Sauerstoff (O2) betroffen, spricht man von einer hypoxischen Form des respiratorischen Versagens, während bei der hyperkapnischen respiratorischen Insuffizienz v. a. die Elimination für Kohlendioxid (CO2) alteriert ist. Grundlagen und Ursachen der unterschiedlichen Formen der respiratorischen Insuffizienz sind Gegenstand dieses Kapitels.
