Zusammenfassung
Nahezu zwei Drittel der Erdoberfläche – und damit die gesamte ozeanische Kruste – sind im Laufe der vergangenen 200 Mio. Jahre durch Seafloor-Spreading entstanden, in einem Zeitraum, der lediglich vier Prozent der Erdgeschichte umfasst. Wenn wir also verstehen wollen, wie sich die Erde seit ihren glühend heißen Anfängen entwickelt hat, müssen wir uns den Kontinenten zuwenden, denn dort finden wir Gesteine, die ein Alter von mehr als vier Milliarden Jahren aufweisen.
