Zusammenfassung
Erste ausführliche Beschreibungen psychotherapeutischer Interventionen bei Zwangsstörungen gehen auf Sigmund Freud und die Psychoanalyse zurück. Es wurden komplexe psychodynamische Erklärungsansätze entwickelt; allerdings erwies sich die Symptomatik trotz lang dauernder Therapien oft als hartnäckig und therapieresistent. Diese Erfahrungen handelten dem Krankheitsbild den ungünstigen Ruf ein, schwer oder gar nicht behandelbar zu sein. Einen Durchbruch in der Psychotherapie der Zwangsstörungen bedeutete die Entwicklung und erfolgreiche Anwendung verhaltenstherapeutischer Techniken ab etwa 1960.
