Das Auge schließt als wesentlichen Teil des Sehorgans einen nach vorne geschobenen Gehirnteil, die lichtempfindliche Netzhaut, ein, der außerhalb der das Zentralnervensystem sonst schützenden Knochenkapselliegt, weil seine Funktion an die unmittelbare Einwirkung elektromagnetischer Schwingungen gebunden ist.
