Zusammenfassung

Im Überlandverkehr oder auf belebter Autobahn können Fahrzeuge selten bis zu ihrer Leistungsgrenze ausgefahren werden. Auf weiten Fahrstrecken sind die Motoren, insbesondere die leistungsstarken und hochtourigen Personen- und Sportwagenmotoren, auch bei hoher Geschwindigkeit nur zu einem Teil ihrer Maximalleistung ausgenutzt und kommen in Bereiche mit hohem spezifischen Brennstoffverbrauch. Durch Umschalten auf einen ins Schnelle übersetzenden Gang lassen sich diese Nachteile vermeiden. Bei gleicher Fahrgeschwindigkeit dreht der Motor langsamer und arbeitet wirtschaftlicher.
