Zusammenfassung

Für die technische Anwendung, insbesondere in der Kernreaktortechnologie, sind UF6 und UO2 die wichtigsten Uranverbindungen. UO2 als wichtigstes Zwischenprodukt ist gleichzeitig die Verbindung, an der überwiegend die Uran-Isotopentrennung ausgeführt wird. UO2 ist Zwischenprodukt bei der Herstellung von UF6 und von Uranmetall, gleichzeitig wird es in großem Umfang als Kernbrennstoff in Leistungsreaktoren eingesetzt. Urancarbide und- nitride, die auf ihre Verwendbarkeit als Kernbrennstoff untersucht werden, haben erheblich geringere Bedeutung. Das metallische Uran stand zu Beginn des Zeitalters der Urantechnologie im Mittelpunkt des Interesses. Heute wird es gern in Forschungsreaktoren eingesetzt, häufig auch als Legierung oder Cermet.
