Zusammenfassung
Epilepsien sind häufige Krankheiten: In der Bundesrepublik gibt es rund 350000 Anfallskranke. Wenigstens 0,5% aller Menschen, d.h. 15 Millionen Personen, leiden an wiederholten epileptischen Anfällen. Nur ¼ von ihnen werden je in einer Klinik untersucht und auch nur etwa die Hälfte einem Facharzt vorgestellt. Die Aufgabe der Diagnose, Differentialdiagnose und Therapie der Epilepsien liegt also vor allem beim praktizierenden Arzt.
