Abstract
A thermodynamic analysis of phase relationships in the Fe-Cu system has been carried out by Kubaschewski et al. [1]. Available thermodynamic data have been perused to develop a set of analytical expressions which describe the Gibbs energies of phase formation for the liquid, the fcc and bcc phases in the Fe-Cu system as functions of composition and temperature. These functions predict phase equilibria in close agreement with the experimental temperature-composition diagram and are represented in Fig. 17. Detailed information is shown in Figs. 18 and 19. During the determination of diffusion coefficients in the Fe-Cu system with an electron probe microanalyser [2] the solubility limits were also analysed and published after the thermodynamical evaluation. The solubility of Cu in high purity Fe measured by [2] in the temperature range 650–1,050°C is recorded in Fig.20. The results agree well with those used in the publication by [1].
