Abstract
The present article is based on a recent review by Bashir and Maibach (1997). They defined compound allergy as an allergic contact dermatitis in which a preparation is believed to be allergenic on patch testing, whilst its individual ingredients show a negative patch-test result. Some or all of those ingredients must have interacted to form a new allergen (Table 1).
