Zusammenfassung
Glas ist ein spröder Körper, und seine mechanische Festigkeit ist sprichwörtlich gering. Es hat in der Vergangenheit sehr viele Versuche und Entwicklungen gegeben, um die mechanische Festigkeit von Glaserzeugnissen zu erhöhen. Es ist bisher nur teilweise und mit sehr unterschiedlichem Erfolg gelungen. Aber bereits diese Teilerfolge zeigen, daß dem Glase auf Grund einer erhöhten Festigkeit völlig neue und zum Teil unerwartete Anwendungsgebiete erschlossen werden können.
