Das Nervensystem dient der Regulation und Anpassung des Organismus an die wechselnden Bedingungen der Außenwelt und des Körperinneren. Es ist somit ein Kommunikations- und Steuerungsorgan. Nervenfreie Organe gibt es im Körper nicht.
