Abstract
In this chapter, I would like to discuss changes that the Japanese automobile industry is undergoing with respect to its product development system covering the period between the heyday of the “bubble economy” (beginning in the late 1990s) and today (1998) in an attempt to make clear issues that the Japanese automobile industry is facing at present.
