Abstract
Major contributions to our knowledge of the epidermal lipids have been made by G.M. Gray and associates, and this work has been excellently reviewed by Yardley and Summerly (1981) and by Yardley (1983). Readers are referred to these sources for discussions of the lipid class distribution within epidermis as well as the nonpolar lipids and phospholipids. These topics will not be discussed in the present work.
