Zusammenfassung
Während Selbstverletzungen in der Adoleszenz noch in den 1990er Jahren vor allem abseits der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung in klinischen, forensischen und pädagogisch-stationären Bereichen auftraten, hat sich das Spektrum um die Jahrtausendwende verändert: Selbstverletzende Handlungen wurden zunehmend in Büchern und Filmen thematisiert. Seit sich prominente Persönlichkeiten dazu bekannt haben, wird das Phänomen medial breit abgehandelt (siehe auch Sachsse 2016: 3f). Veränderte Formen von Selbstverletzungen entstanden mit dem Aufkommen von privaten Homepages sowie in Internetforen, auf denen Fotos von Wunden und Narben gezeigt und mit anderen geteilt werden (vgl. Lewis et al. 2012; Misoch 2010).
