Zusammenfassung
Das Kapitel Strömungen in der Atmosphäre und im Ozean ist Teil des Lehrbuches und Nachschlagewerkes H. Oertel jr. (Hrsg.) Prandtl-Führer durch die Strömungslehre. Hierbei werden zunächst die Gemeinsamkeiten von Strömungsvorgängen in Atmosphäre und Ozean dargestellt. Anschließend werden spezielle Strömungsformen in der Atmosphäre wie thermische Windsysteme und atmosphärische Wirbelformen beschrieben. Als Auswahl ozeanischer Strömungsformen werden windgetriebene Meeresströmungen und Wasserwellen behandelt. Hinsichtlich praktischer Anwendungen der Gesetzmäßigkeiten von Strömungsvorgängen in der Atmosphäre und im Ozean finden sich Ausführungen zur Wetter- und Klimavorhersage sowie zum Problem des Ozonlochs.
