Zusammenfassung
Den Barnum-Effekt haben wahrscheinlich die meisten Menschen schon erlebt. Das auch als Forer-Effekt bekannte Phänomen bedeutet, dass Menschen vage und allgemeingültige Aussagen auf sich beziehen und deswegen glauben, dass sie selbst zutreffend beschrieben wer-den. Der Barnum-Effekt geht dabei zurück auf den Zirkusdirektor Phineas Taylor Barnum. In seinem Zirkuszelt unterhielt er im 19. Jahrhundert ein Kuriosenkabinett, das für jeden Geschmack etwas zu bieten hatte.
