Zusammenfassung
Der Psychologe Robert Merton erarbeitete 1948 das Konzept der selbsterfüllenden Prophezeiung, wonach sich eine Vorhersage über direkte und indirekte Mechanismen selbst bewirkt. Ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der selbsterfüllenden Prophezeiung ist auch, dass diejenigen, die ein bestimmtes Verhalten oder Ergebnis erwarten, in besonderem Maße dazu beitragen, dass es eintritt – sowohl bewusst als auch unbewusst.
