Jede Person, die mit Risikomanagement zu tun hat, dürfte Murphys Gesetz (Murphy’s Law) kennen. Es entstand 1949 auf der Edwards Air Force Base und geht zurück auf den Ingenieur Captain Edward A. Murphy, der zu diesem Zeitpunkt an einem Raketenschlittenprogramm zur Erforschung der Auswirkungen von Beschleunigungskräften am menschlichen Körper teilnahm. Er entwickelte die zur Erforschung benötigte Messapparatur.
