Stellen Sie sich die folgende Situation vor: Sie halten die eine Hand auf eine kochend heiße Herdplatte und die andere Hand in eine Kältekammer mit -60°C. Was ist der Effekt? Die eine Hand ist verbrannt und die andere erfroren. Betrachtet man nun aber lediglich den Mittelwert, dann käme man zum Ergebnis, dass alles wunderbar sein müsse und man sich bei einer komfortablen Raumtemperatur von um die 20°C bewege.
