Zusammenfassung
Aufgrund von Phänomenen, wie der kontinuierlichen Erschließung neuer Zielgebiete für Touristen, dem Ausbau touristischer Infrastrukturen oder der gewachsenen Markttransparenz durch moderne Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien, stehen touristische Zielgebiete (Destinationen) in einem intensiven Wettbewerb um Gäste. Dies führt dazu, dass die für die Vermarktung der Zielgebiete verantwortlichen Destinationsmanagement- Organisationen (DMO) vermehrt auf das Konzept der Markenführung zurückgreifen (vgl. Thilo 2017, S. 103ff.; García/Gómez/Molina 2012, S. 646f.; Qu/Kim/Im 2011, S. 465f.), indem sie die von verschiedenen Leistungsträgern (z. B. Beherbergungsunternehmen, Restaurants, Freizeiteinrichtungen) in der Destination erbrachten Angebote durch den Einsatz von Marketinginstrumenten unter einer Destinationsmarke zusammenfassen (vgl. Scherhag 2003, S. 99f.).
