Zusammenfassung
Kies, Sand, Quarz und Naturstein bilden als mineralische Rohstoffe eine wesentliche Grundlage moderner menschlicher Existenz, ohne die kaum Behausungen oder Verkehrswege zu Lande bestünden und auch jenseits von Hoch- und Tiefbau sind sie in den Industriezweigen Glas, Pharma, Papier und Metall präsent. Jährlich werden in Deutschland rund 500 Millionen Tonnen Gesteinskörnungen abgebaut und verarbeitet (vgl. MIRO 2018, o. S.). Die Gewinnung mineralischer Rohstoffe im Tagebau bleibt allerdings nicht ohne Nebenfolgen.
