Zusammenfassung
Der Zeitraum von den 1950er bis zu den 1980er Jahren gilt nicht nur in Westdeutschland als eine Periode des beschleunigten soziokulturellen Wandels. Sozial- und Geschichtswissenschaften stimmen darin überein, dass sich bei gleichzeitiger politischer Systemstabilität und – zumindest bis zum › Ölschock ‹ 1973 – kontinuierlichem wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung auf breiter Front neue soziale Normen und Verhaltensweisen etablierten. Diese Veränderung wird oft als › Wertewandel ‹ hin zu größerer individueller Freiheit, Toleranz und häufig auch sozialer Gleichheit interpretiert und auf die Initiativen von Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen zurückgeführt, die überkommene Konventionen herausforderten und neue, den Voraussetzungen liberaler Demokratien und Konsumgesellschaften entsprechende verhaltensleitende Vorstellungen durchsetzten.
