Zusammenfassung
Die Kernkompetenzen eines Unternehmens liegen einerseits in seinem Humankapital, andererseits in den ihm verfügbaren Technologien, die oft als intellektuelle Eigentumsrechte in besonderer Form geschützt sind, beispielsweise durch Warenzeichen und Patente. Dabei erscheinen besonders verwendungsoffene Technologien als wertvoll, weil sie eine Vielzahl von Anwendungen erlauben. Eine hohe Aufmerksamkeit ist auf kritische Technologien und Ressourcen zu richten, weil hier eine plötzliche Knappheit das Unternehmen bedrohen kann bzw. bessere Technologien der Konkurrenz dem Unternehmen erhebliche Wettbewerbsnachteile bringen können.
Das Kapitel versetzt den Leser in die Lage, neben dem Humankapital die technologischen Kernkompetenzen als weitere zentrale Ressource des erfolgreichen Unternehmens zu sehen.
