Berichte auf Bild.de, Spiegel.de, Beiträge bei Quarks & Co, WDR Lokalzeit, 3sat nano, Spielfilme auf Sat.1, Kinofilme wie „Me too“, Fernsehfilme wie „Be my baby“ oder die vierteilige Sat.1 Sendung „Zeig mir dein Gesicht“ mit Kai Pflaume sind nur ausgewählte Beispiele für die mediale Präsenz von Menschen mit Down-Syndrom. Der Kontext, in dem über die geistige Behinderung massenmedial berichtet wird, ist dabei keineswegs kommunikationswissenschaftlicher Art: Pränataldiagnostik ist das neue Stichwort.
