Zusammenfassung
Fehlende funktionale Äquivalenz ist im nationalen Kontext eine selten thematisierte Beeinträchtigung der Validität von Erhebungsdaten. Im Anschluss an kulturtheoretische Erwägungen von Swidler und Bourdieu wurde die strukturelle Äquivalenz einer Persönlichkeitsmessung im Sozio-oekonomischen Panel an sechs ausgewählten Subgruppen getestet. In vier von sechs Subgruppen ergaben die Faktorenanalysen nicht die theoretisch postulierte Faktorenstruktur. Die Befunde können als Beleg dafür gewertet werden, dass die Heterogenität der Gesellschaft noch nicht hinreichend bei der Entwicklung und Prüfung von Messinstrumenten Berücksichtigung findet.

Funktionale Äquivalenz bedeutet nicht zwangsläufig, dass es identische Instrumente verwendet werden müssen, sondern, dass das selbe Konstrukt gemessen werden soll. Die Messung kann, wenn dies erforderlich sein sollte, mit völlig unterschiedlichen Instrumenten erfolgen.
