Zusammenfassung
In ihrem Verweis auf fehlende Beweise für einen konkreten Zusammenhang zwischen dem Auftreten der Pest und der Entstehung eines Totentanzgemäldes soll Elina Gertsmans Aussage von 2007 als symptomatisch für die neuere Totentanzforschung angeführt werden. Sie wendet sich damit bewusst gegen die Mehrzahl der Studien zu diesem Thema, die im Laufe des 20. Jahrhunderts entstanden sind und beinahe standardmäßig die Entstehung der monumentalen Totentänze im Kontext der mittelalterlichen Pestepidemien verortet hatten.
