Zusammenfassung
Kupplungen dienen vor allem zur Übertragung von Rotationsenergie (Drehmomenten, Drehbewegungen) zwischen zwei Wellen oder einer Welle mit einem auf ihr drehbeweglich sitzenden Bauteil, z. B. Zahnrad. Neben dieser Hauptfunktion (Leitungsfunktion) können Kupplungen folgende Zusatzfunktionen haben: Ausgleich von radialen, axialen und winkligen Wellenverlagerungen sowie Drehmomentstöße mildern oder dämpfen (Ausgleichsfunktion); Ein- und Ausschalten der Drehmomentübertragung (Schaltfunktion).
