Kurzzusammenfassung
Durch die separatistischen Bestrebungen in Katalonien und Schottland sind ethno-regionale Parteien in jüngster Zeit verstärkt in den Fokus von Medien und Wissenschaft geraten. Zur Europawahl 2014 traten zahlreiche regionalistische Parteien an. Dreizehn Parteien aus acht Ländern gelang der Einzug in das Europäische Parlament. Der Beitrag zeigt, dass solche Parteien sich weder einheitlich auf einer links-rechts Dimension verorten noch als Parteienfamilie über den Vertretungsanspruch gegenüber einer spezifischen sozialen Schicht definieren lassen. Die zentrale Gemeinsamkeit, dieser Parteien besteht im Vertretungsanspruch ethnischer, sprachlicher und kultureller Minderheiten innerhalb von Nationalstaaten. Im Mittelpunkt des Beitrags steht die Frage, ob das Abschneiden ethno-regionaler Parteien bei der Europawahl 2014 durch den nationalen politischen Kontext bestimmt wurde oder ob übergeordnete Faktoren der europäischen Politik stärker ins Gewicht fielen. Die deutlichen Unterschiede bei den Zugewinnen bzw. Verlusten regionalistischer Parteien verweisen darauf, dass die jeweilige politische und soziale Situation in den einzelnen Ländern ausschlaggebend für deren Abschneiden ist. Insbesondere in ‚Krisenländern‘, in denen populistische Parteien Erfolge verbuchten, verloren ethno- regionale Parteien Stimmen gegenüber der vorangegangenen Europawahl 2009.
