Zusammenfassung

Legitimität ist schwer zu fassen und noch schwerer empirisch zu erforschen. Dennoch spielt sie – implizit oder explizit – eine große Rolle in der Transformationsforschung. Jede soziale Institution ist lediglich eine Tatsache „kraft menschlicher Übereinkunft“ (John R. Searle). Die Rechtmäßigkeit und Anerkennungswürdigkeit politischer Herrschaft ist also von zentraler Bedeutung für die Stabilität und Transformation politischer Regime.
