Zusammenfassung
Halbleiter sind Materialien, deren elektrische Leitfähigkeit sich in weiten Bereichen steuern lässt. Anders als bei Metallen, die immer gute elektrische Leiter sind, können Halbleiterstrukturen so gebaut werden, dass sie auf einen elektrischen Impuls hin ihre Leitfähigkeit stark ändern. Darüber hinaus besitzen Halbleiter auch interessante optische Eigenschaften und können als Lichtsensoren oder auch als Lichtquellen eingesetzt werden. Woher Halbleiter diese Eigenschaften beziehen, ist Thema dieses Kapitels.
