Zusammenfassung
Neben einer Reihe anderer Faktoren, wie der Gestalt der Gesenkoberfläche, der Zunderfreiheit des Schmiedegutes, bewirkt auch das Schmieren während der Formung eine Erhöhung der Standzeit. Die dazu verwendeten Schmiermittel bestehen aus Ölen und kolloidalem Graphit. Auch Bitumen wird gelegentlich verwendet, jedoch wirkt es unangenehm infolge seiner Geruchsbelästigung. Nach neueren Untersuchungen soll sich auch Glaspulver, gemischt mit Ton und Alkalien, gut bewährt haben.
