Abstract

In many positron annihilation studies of insulating matter essentially two questions must be answered, namely: A) What are the states of the light particles, the positron, Ps, and the excess electron, in the sample, and B) What are the rates of the transitions between these states. Hence, it is appropriate to start the discussions by giving a description of the normally found states of the light particles in this chapter. In exceptional cases the states change so rapidly that the two questions are not useful guides of the reasoning.
